1938 – SAMUEL EDWARD SALT, Deputy, 41
Samuel Edward Salt, of 27 North Crescent, Duckmanton, left a widow and son, Edward Salt. Samuel was a member of the Markham Colliery ambulance division and his ambulance cap was buried with him. He was buried at Barlborough, not in the mass grave, but nearby, in an adjoining grave to his father who was killed at Southgate Colliery.
Samuel was commemorated on 12th October 2022. The location of the artwork dedicated to Samuel can be found in zone 13 on the trail map which can be downloaded here.
From Derbyshire Times:
” In loving memory of Samuel Edward Salt who passed away in the Markham Colliery disaster May 10th 1938 aged 41 years. ‘On Jesus bosom he is sleeping’.”
Samuel left a widow and son Edward Salt. He was not buried in the mass grave with the other ten men, but behind them, near to his father who was killed at Southgate Colliery.
