1938 – ARTHUR ROPER, Contractor, 61

Arthur Roper of Rectory Road, Duckmanton, had lived in the village for thirty years and formerly worked at Denby where he was employed as a colliery deputy.  He left a widow and three sons, Thomas, Leslie and Clarence.  He was buried at Duckmanton.

Derbyshire Times 13th May 1938

A Roper, Rectory Road, Duckmanton. who was 62 years of age, was born in Kilburn. He had lived at Duckmanton for 30 years and was formerly employed at Denby. Until 1921 he was a colliery deputy and then continued working as a contractor, a position, which he occupied at the time of his death.
