1973 – LUCJAN JULIAN PLEWINSKI, General Worker, 59
Lucjan Plewinski of 8 Ranmoor Close, Hasland, came to England with the Polish Army in 1946 and was stationed at Hardwick Camp. He worked at Westthorpe Colliery for twenty-three years. He was a founder Chairman of the Polish Ex-Servicemen’s Association in Chesterfield, and for three years running won Chesterfield Corporation’s best-kept garden award for the Hasland area. He left his widow Alice, and one son. He was buried at Temple Normanton.

For three years Mr Lucjan Plewinski stayed away from mining after being made redundant at Westthorpe Colliery. But he was unable to find another job. Three months ago he started back at work – as a miner at Markham Colliery. Mr Plewinski, who was 59, lived at 8 Ranmoor Close, Hasland, Chesterfield. He cam to this country with the Polish Army in 1946 and was stationed at Hardwick Camp. He worked at Westthorpe Colliery for 23 years. He was a founder Chairman of the Polish Ex-Servicemen’s Association in Chesterfield, and for three years running won Chesterfield Corporation’s best-kept garden award for the Hasland area. He is survived by his wife Alice, and one son.
